The 2025 Madrid Open is nearing its end, and we have a stellar match on our hands featuring the number 2-ranked Iga Swiatek and the number 4-ranked Coco Gauff.
Polish, Swiatek has reached the semifinals with some superb display of tennis battling hard against Alexandra Eala in a tough 3-setter in the first round, followed by a relatively easy second round defeat of Linda Nosková. She then played in back-to-back 3-set matches against Diana Shnaider and the 5th-ranked Madison Keys in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals respectively.
Gauff’s path to the semifinal has been more straightforward, although that is not to say that it was a cake-walk, as she faced a stern test in the previous round against the seventh-seeded Mirra Andreeva.
After dropping the first set 0-6 in her round of 64 match against Dayana Yastremska, Gauff stormed back for the win in three sets and has since followed that up with straight-set victories against Ann Li, Belinda Bencic, and the aforementioned Andreeva.
Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff Head-to-Head Record
The Polish and the American have faced off against each other several times and today’s meeting will be number 15 between the pair. The head-to-head is rather lopsided, however, with Swiatek leading by a huge margin of 11-3.
The pair played their first match against one another in the 2021 Rome semifinals, where Swiatek earned a straight-sets victory. Swiatek, in fact, steamed ahead to 7 straight wins before Gauff finally managed to earn her first win against the Pole in the 2023 semifinals at Cincinnati.
Although Swiatek has the clear edge in this rivalry, Gauff has got the better of her opponent on the past 2 occasions, with her latest win coming in the 2025 United Cup.
