Carlos Alcaraz Equals Two Andy Murray Records with Cincinnati Win Over Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz emulated Andy Murray in two impressive ways after his Cincinnati Open final win against Jannik Sinner.

Sinner was forced to retire against Alcaraz at the Cincinnati Open, meaning the World No. 2 picked up his sixth title of 2025.

Alcaraz could topple Sinner as World No. 1 at the US Open, with the Spaniard needing to better the Italian’s performance at Flushing Meadows.

The World No. 2’s win at the Cincinnati Open saw Alcaraz match two incredible Andy Murray records at the ATP 1000 tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest Cincinnati Open winner since Andy Murray in 2008

Murray won his first Masters title at the Cincinnati Open in 2008, at the age of 21, and Alcaraz is the youngest winner since the Scottish star.

Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in the final after two tiebreak sets to assert himself on the ATP 1000 stage.

Alcaraz, who was just a year older than Murray, became the youngest star to win the title since the Scotsman.

Unlike Murray, Alcaraz’s win in Cincinnati was his eighth ATP 1000 win, and the Spaniard has already won five Grand Slams.

That’s not the only Murray record the World No. 2 matched with his unfortunate win against Sinner in Cincinnati.

Carlos Alcaraz matched another Andy Murray record after the Cincinnati Open

As well as becoming the youngest player to win the Cincinnati Open since Murray in 2008, Alcaraz also did something that was last achieved by the Scotsman and Djokovic in 2015.

Alcaraz’s win against Sinner was his 54th win on the ATP Tour in 2025, which means he’s the first player in a decade to reach that many wins before the US Open.

That record was only emphasised by Djokovic, who went on to win the US Open that year after defeating Roger Federer in the final.

Murray, however, lost before the quarter-final stages for the first time in five years, as he crashed out to Kevin Anderson in the fourth round.
